Taranaki Māori are opposing an application by Tag Oil and Apache Corporation to truck drilling waste from their oil and gas exploration sites on the East Coast.
The companies want to dump the waste in previously consented sites near Patea and Waitara.
Peter Moeahu from Te Atiawa says he will be fighting any attempt to dump the waste.
East Coast Ahi Ka Action Group spokeswoman Ani Pahuru-Huriwai says taking the waste into another iwi's rohe is not a solution, and she would support any opposition from Taranaki.
