Tainui MBA students on first nations study tour
Students from the Waikato Tainui Master of Business Administration programme are on their way to Vancouver for the start of an international study tour.
Student Potaka Maipi says it's the first year of the course based at the Tainui Endowed College based at Hopuhopu that the trip will give the rōpū tauira a chance to see how indigenous businesses operate in Canada.
He says when the late Sir Robert Mahuta and other Tainui leaders settled the tribe's raupatu claims, they had a dream of using the college to create future leaders not just of Tainui but of other Maori and indigenous groups.
As well as making links with Canadian First Nations people and other international business networks, the tauira will meet New Zealander’s doing business offshore and get a crash course in the infrastructure and economies of the countries they visit.
