Jackson buoyed by Oxford Union debate support
Labour Party MP Willie Jackson says he’s nervous but excited about tomorrow’s Oxford Union debate.
He and American author and former museum director Gary Vikan will take the negative on the motion British museums are not very British.
He’s the first Maori and only second New Zealander after then prime minister David Lange to be invited into the world acclaimed debating chamber at Oxford University.
He says it’s an honour to be invited.
“People have been enthusiastically supportive, pakeha people to. I don’t just do this for our people. I like a lot of New Zealanders across the spectrum to support me because there’s a group, they just hate us,” Mr Jackson says.
