The three Whānau Ora commissioning agencies are waiting for details on the process to retender their contracts.
Te Puni Kokiri has told New Zealand Doctor the process of formally requesting tenders for commissioning services is still in the planning stage,
North Island Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency chief executive John Tamihere says the ministry isn’t being honest or transparent.
He says there has been no consultation about a policy shift, and the uncertainty is not fair on providers nor on his agency.
“You have to give your people out on the street knowledge they can contract with their employees for consecutive years. You’ve got to give confidence to the people you are contracting with that they can take leaseholds, buy cars, buy devices, buy laptops to make their work work in communities, and you’ve got to give them certainty,” Mr Tamihere says.
He says the Whanau Ora Commissioning Agency has been subjected to multiple audits, inquiries and reviews and has consistently shown to be delivering quality programmes.
