Rugby win changing women’s sport
Former netball and rugby international Louisa Wall believes the success of the Women’s Rugby World Cup will be transformational for women’s sport.
She says the teams’ camaraderie alongside their fierce competitiveness, professional skill levels, and disciplined off and on-field conduct was a showcase for the game.
Sponsors, New Zealand Rugby, and the fans now need to keep up the momentum.
“This is a transformation – the transformation for rugby in Aotearoa-New Zealand. But I also think it’s a transformation for women’s sport in Aoteroa-New Zealand – and in fact globally,” she says.
Louisa Wall says the Black Ferns’ obvious Maori pride, stunning hakas, the use of poi as a game icon, and the many other cultural experiences for fans and visitng teams showcased everything positive about Maori culture.
