Waipareira plan to invest in families
Te Whānau ō Waipareira’s new 25 year strategic plan is being seen as a blueprint for improving the lives of those who use the West Auckland trust’s services.
Di Grenell, the operational manager of Te Puni Kokiri’s Whānau and Social Policy section, says Waipareira is making a real contribution to the kaupapa of whānau ora.
She welcomed the focus on research and accountability on the plan as a way to build up evidence for what works and what doesn’t.
“It’s really important for us to be accountable for public funds and finance and that’s a real critical piece. The other really critical piece though is to make sure that when we’re making investments with and alongside families, we are investing in things that will make a best difference for them because often they only have one opportunity. When they engage whether it’s with a service provider or some other health group or agency, we’ve all got a responsibility for making sure as much as possible that we build good evidence and then we act out of that evidence,” she says.
Di Grenell says in the past policies have been developed without asking whānau what they wanted, which is something whānau ora is trying to change.
