King blasts gutter-raking media
The Maori king has lashed out at Maori Television, saying it was too negative.
The speech by King Tuheitia Potatau Te Wherowhero VII to close the annual Koroneihana hui in Ngaruawahia yesterday concentrated on his support for the Maori Party.
But he went off script near the end to complain about the media.
"Every little thing I do they want to have a dig and gutter rake behind me to see what they could dig up. Some Sundays I watch Tangata Pasifika and all the things on that programme are positive, not digging up gutter stuff. We set up Maori TV for us and when I look back at what they did to the Kohanga (Reo National Trust), where are they now? Kohanga reo is starting to come up again and I can't see anything in the news," King Tuheitia said.
