Meanwhile, National's new deputy leader Nikki Kaye says she wants to ensure the party’s Māori MPs have a strong voice and are respected.
The Auckland Central MP says she has talked with Māori development spokesperson Jo Hayes, who complained to Radio Waatea about Māori being left off the front bench.
Ms Hayes was ranked at number 37 in the caucus of 49.
"We value Jo massively and I think we will always pause and reflect and evolve our thinking. the core principle is we promote people on competency but we certainly heard the messages that have come in over the last few days," Ms Kaye says.
She says National wants to be judged on how it delivers for Maori in areas like inequality, poverty and educational attainment.
