With Parliament adjourned and the election campaign moving into full swing, Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson joins Radio Waatea to discuss the issues her party wants at the centre of the national debate.
The Greens are campaigning on three broad priorities — affordable living, healthy nature and what the party describes as real democracy — alongside policies covering housing, healthcare, energy, Te Tiriti, climate action and inequality.
Tax is also shaping up as a major election battleground. The Greens are proposing a 2.5 percent wealth tax on net assets above $10 million, excluding the family home, alongside income tax changes the party says would deliver a tax cut to 96 percent of earners.
The party is pointing to a recent Ipsos survey of 1,003 people conducted between September 3 and 11, which found 64 percent supported a 2.5 percent tax on net assets above $10 million with the family home exempt, while 26 percent opposed it.
For Davidson and the Greens, the campaign now becomes a contest over what voters want the next Government to prioritise — and how Aotearoa should pay for it.
