Rugby fans heading to the Super Rugby Pacific Grand Final in Wellington can use their match ticket to travel free on public transport this Saturday.
Supporters attending the Hurricanes versus Chiefs final at Hnry Stadium on 20 June will be able to show their game ticket when travelling on Metlink trains and buses to and from the match.
The offer does not include harbour ferries or Te Hunga Whaikaha Total Mobility taxis.
Free travel is being majority funded by Greater Wellington, with support from Wellington City Council, as the capital prepares for a major sporting night.
Greater Wellington Public Transport Committee Chair Ros Connelly says Metlink and local councils are backing the Hurricanes and are looking at integrating public transport fares with match tickets from next season.
Fans are being encouraged to travel early ahead of the 7.05pm kickoff, with Metlink services running to normal weekend timetables before the match.
Extra trains will operate after the game on the Hutt Valley, Kāpiti and Johnsonville lines. No additional post-match trains are planned for the Wairarapa or Melling lines.
Larger buses will also run on some core routes after the final, while buses and harbour ferries will otherwise continue operating on normal weekend timetables.
Metlink is urging fans to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and check the latest updates through the Metlink app, website, or by calling 0800 801 700.
With thousands expected to descend on Wellington for the clash, officials say public transport will be one of the easiest ways to get to and from the stadium.
