Auckland FC have booked a place in the A-League grand final after a commanding 3-0 victory over Adelaide United in the second leg of their semi-final clash in Australia.

The win at Coopers Stadium secured a 4-1 aggregate triumph for the expansion club, capping off a remarkable debut season in the Australian competition.

Auckland took control of the match just before halftime when defender Jake Girdwood-Reich headed home from a Lachlan Brook corner to silence the Adelaide crowd.

Striker Sam Cosgrove doubled the lead in the second half from the penalty spot after Adelaide defender Panagiotis Kikianis brought down an Auckland attacker inside the box.

Logan Rogerson sealed the result late in the game after Auckland launched a rapid counterattack, securing the Black Knights’ first-ever grand final appearance.

The result continues Auckland FC’s unbeaten run against Adelaide United since entering the A-League in 2024.

Coach Steve Corica praised his side’s discipline and composure in what was one of the club’s biggest matches to date.

Auckland entered the second leg level at 1-1 after the opening semi-final at Go Media Stadium last week, where former Adelaide winger Lachlan Brook scored against his old club.

The club’s rapid rise has stunned many across the league, with Auckland FC only entering the A-League this season before immediately emerging as title contenders.

Their success has also fuelled growing excitement around football in Aotearoa, with strong crowds, increased fan engagement and a growing supporter base helping establish the club quickly within the competition.

Several All Whites players and New Zealand football talent have featured prominently throughout the campaign, adding to hopes the club can strengthen pathways for local players on the international stage.

Auckland FC will now prepare for the A-League grand final as they chase what would be one of the most extraordinary debut seasons in Australasian football history.
