“The Bones of Our Past” premiered, chronicling the story of Takahanga Marae on the hills above Kaikōura. The film reflects on its 1992 opening, its emergence as a refuge during the 2016 quake, and its enduring importance to Ngāti Kuri and the wider community. Trustee Jacqui Te Wani described the experience as deeply emotional-“hearing their voices”-while producer Cilla Harnett highlighted how the project stemmed from postponed anniversary celebrations due to the pandemic.
