Te Pāti Māori representative to the Privileges Committee says the result was personal in suspending Te Pāti Māori members.
Te Pāti Māori Leaders Rawiri Waititi and Debbie Ngārewa-Packer have both been suspended for 21 days, the longest suspension passed ever in the history of parliament in New Zealand, with Hana Rawhiti Maipi Clarke receiving a 7-day suspension on top of the 7 days she has already served for their involvement in the haka which disrupted the first reading of the Treaty Principles Bill.
Mariameno Kapa-Kingi shared with Waatea this morning her frustration in sitting through the deliberations on Wednesday evening.
Kapa-Kingi says, she has no doubt the committee crossed a professional line in delivering their verdict.
“…this is a personal result, and I actually made that comment in the committee unreservedly because I…in observing it, sitting in it, listening to it, there is no question in my mind that this crossed from professional to personal. That’s what I make of it. I think it is disgraceful, it is disgusting, it is so grossly grossly unwarranted and unjust…”
