Luxon, Modi Announce Trade, Defence Deals
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and India’s Narendra Modi have announced new trade and defence agreements after talks in New Delhi.
New Zealand and India will begin negotiations on a Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (CFTA), while a new Defence Cooperation Arrangement will strengthen military ties.
Forestry trade is also on the agenda, as Agriculture and Trade Minister Todd McClay signed a new Memorandum of Cooperation during the Prime Minister’s Indian Trade Mission.
Luxon says security is key to prosperity, and India is a vital Indo-Pacific partner.
The two leaders also committed to closer collaboration in technology and diplomacy, with New Zealand expanding its diplomatic presence in India.
Luxon met Indian President Droupadi Murmu and spoke at the Raisina Dialogue, India’s top defence conference, as Chief Guest.
