This morning, Reverend Dr. Te Hira Paenga is formally welcomed as tumuaki of Aotearoa’s first Kura Kaupapa Māori.
Paenga says it’s an honour, especially in the kura’s 40th year.
With generations passing through, he’s excited to guide its next chapter.
“Oh, look, we’re the catalyst for kaupapa Māori. Through our Te Aho Matua philosophy and overall, holistic, spiritual kaupapa, and that Aho Matua is what binds our taha tinana and our ultimate belief, that I believe, exceeds the educational expectations and moves into Oranga, moves into a total holistic package around what it means to ultimately be Māori,” says Paenga.
