Former Minister, and Opposition MP, Willie Jackson, has tonight taken to social media, to call out ACT Party Leader, David Seymour, over the handling of allegations into sexual abuse by former President of the Party, Tim Jago. Jago lost name suppression last week having been convicted, as a result of the allegations, in 2024. Jago is currently in Jail. Taking to Facebook, Jackson has said “I’m sorry, but David Seymour’s answers regarding his actions upon learning of allegations against his President on Radio NZ this morning only generate more questions. No one should politicise this type of ugliness and most rational people are not suggesting some type of Jeffrey Epstein level of conspiracy here.
Jackson has gone on to say “serious” questions needed to be answered “If this was really about the abuse survivors interests, why didn’t David immediately suggest the Police for the complainants instead of a friendly ACT Lawyer?
If this was about taking the allegations seriously, why pay a Lawyer to say you have handled it appropriately rather than advising the police first?
David says, “The people who are out there trying to somehow drive guilt by association when there were 20 years separating the events, frankly, I think is shameful.” Does that criticism extend to ACTs own Vice President of the ACT Party Youth wing who has claimed on social media that Jago’s reputation was known inside the Youth Wing as far back as 2020? That’s 3 years before he resigned!
If that is true, how did the Youth wing know but the adults didn’t?
David’s interview was supposed to clear this issue up, it has instead demanded more questions because ACT managed to keep their President’s name secret for the entire election campaign while they campaigned on tough law and order policy.”
Waatea is reaching out to Seymour for a response to Jacksons comments. Meanwhile Jago, although now convicted, has claimed he is innocent.
