Maketū Pies Factory closing, sale hoped

The days are numbered for the Maketū Pies factory near Tauranga, with auditors calling for the company to cease operations.

Maketū Foods Ltd, owned by Te Arawa Lakes Trust, has run the business for the past four years, but during that time, the company drained financial support, leaving it in a dire position.

Auditors say the liquidation of Maketū Pies will be handled by BDO Tauranga.

Following a review of the iconic company’s operations, its parent company agreed last week to shut down Maketū Pies.

The parent company intends for Maketū Pies to cease operations entirely and permanently.

However, BDO Tauranga has assured that employees will be paid, and efforts are underway to sell Maketū Pies, with hopes the process will be completed by January.
