Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peter says people should have waited to see what’s in the Budget before they went out to protest.
He says he’s done more for Māori than the Johnny-come-lately’s protesting like a bunch of pinko communists.
“There will be a lot for Māori in this Budget today but not for those Māori who say ‘if you give me the money I’ll deliver the service,’ and haven’t been. There’s been an awful amount of wasted money. Ask Māori on the street whether the money going to their elite leadership is getting down to them, and the answer is inevitably, ‘no’,” Mr Peters says.
Mr Peters says the budget will leave more money in people’s pockets through tax cuts.
