Introduction of Legislation in Respect of the Treaty of Waitangi.
- Matthew Tukaki
I’m going to start this post off by saying NZ First and Shane Jones have completely lost the plot; to the point with their mates whereby it’s being reported legislation is being prepared to expunge The Tresty of Waitangi from pieces of legislation. Let’s be clear here it’s not Māori causing division in this country it’s these politicians who are doing it for no other reason (s) than a combination of vote garnering, a disdain for the institutions of Māori and to be frank our culture. The worst of it is those with Māori heritage are doing it alongside a Prime Minister and party who allude to represent all New Zealanders – just not those pesky little brownies.
For years this group of people have railed against Māori casting us as grifters, elite, divisive and much more. And yet here is your government prepared to expunge the treaty from legislation.
So why now? Probably a series of reasons but chief among them is they are drifting in the polls. They’ll then tell you this is what they campaigned on. No not to this rabid extent. Or it’s in the coalition agreement or any number of stupid reasons. And let’s be blunt here most of these people at some point in their careers have supported Māori interests and rights. What a load of pontificating rubbish.
And yet, across the world New Zealand is held up as an example of how other nations can do better on indigenous rights and interests, a model of culture and equity. We were the first in the world to grant women the vote, open our books to marriage equity and I would argue the first in the world to have a treaty that recognised the rights of the Indigenous people. It has never been Māori from day one who broke it (the Treaty) it hasn’t been Māori who marched onto our lands with guns and canon and systematically killed, murdered and pillaged our people, used often yearly pieces of legislation to expunge everything from our language to the confiscation of lands (in vast quantities) – and yet here we still are.
Shane jones, Winston peters, Luxon and Seymour are no better than those politicians of yesteryear. They may speak with words that are smooth and con us into thinking they’re not doing what they’re doing by bamboozling us with business and consulting talk but actually they are the worst of it. A conga line of donation taking grifters from central casting and we should all be ashamed.
You want to see the real ram raiders well here they are / ramming their nonsense straight through the shop window of New Zealand society for all the world to see.
I tell you I have faith in the NZ people, Māori and non Māori alike. That they won’t put up with this and they like me, refuse to have our reputation sullied by this pa know clowns looking for their ringed circus.
You want to do something? Bring inflation down, bring the cost of living down and stop the inherent damage being done to the hip pocket of kiwis. This other stuff is nothing more than hoha / nonsense. And if you think you still retain that confidence of the majority of New Zealand voters call an election, go on I dare you.
