ACC support boosting rongoā healing network
Rongoā practitioners have gathered in Rotorua to share experiences and consider the challenges to greater adoption of traditional Māori healing.
Since the Accident Compensation Corporation started rongoa in 200 numbers have grown steadily, with 9000 people currently in funded treatment.
Rongoa advisory panel member Robyn (Robbie) Richardson says the ACC’s support has been invaluable for creating new pathways for practitioners outside the primary care sector.
“We had whare orange around the country but what ACC has done has opened up a space which can contribute financially but also supportively to rongoa Maori practitioners,” she says.
Robyn Richardson says whatever changes the government might make, rongoa practitioners will practise because it works.
