Gazans invisible as ceasefire call passes
Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson says a UN Security Council demand for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during the holy month of Ramadan is too little, too late.
While the United States abstained from this morning’s vote, its comments showed the 70 years of oppression by the state of Israel against the people of Palestine in Gaza was invisible to it.
“So there’s a real focus on only the terror and the violence of one side. They were only focusing on saying, ‘yeah, we’ve sort of got to stop killing people, but only if Hamas calm down.’ We’ve just got to stop killing people. There are no conditions on that. There are no excuses to not stop. They have to stop killing people. They have to prioritize aid getting through to those whānau, to those mokopuna tamariki and all people,” Ms Davidson says.
