A petition in support of Palestine signed by more than 8000 Māori will be presented to parliament.
Organiser Ayla Collin says it shows the strength of support among tangata whenua for the indigenous people of Palestine.
She says it has taken the New Zealand Government four months to join an international call for a humanitarian ceasefire, after more than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 1 million displaced.
The petition calls for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador to New Zealand until there is a lasting ceasefire.
The petition handover was originally scheduled for today but has been postponed, due to the sudden death yesterday of Greens MP Fa’anānā Efeso Collins.
The petition will now be received on the steps of Parliament by Te Pāti Māori on Thursday 29 February 2024.
