The new Minister for Treaty Negotiations, Paul Goldsmith, says he’s unsure as to whether will attend treaty commemorations in Waitangi next year.

Mr Goldsmith told Radio Waatea parliamentary reporter Claudette Hauiti he had talked to some people within Ngāpuhi about the stalled settlement talks, and was hoping for some meetings before Christmas once he had identified the correct processes.

“And will you be going to Waitangi?”

“That’s ultimately a decision for the Prime Minister as to what we’ll be doing as a government.”

“Never before has a treaty minister not shown up to Waitangi?”

“OK then, we will work through that at the appropriate time,” Mr Goldsmith said.
