Police have charged a 39-year-old man with murder following the death of a Tokoroa woman last month, marking a significant development in an investigation that has deeply affected the local community.
Emergency services were called to a property on Hinau Street shortly before midnight on 18 June, where they found a woman unresponsive. Despite efforts to assist her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have now identified the victim as 47-year-old Michelle Tangimataiti, of Tokoroa.
Following several weeks of investigation, detectives have arrested a 39-year-old man, who has been charged with murder. He is scheduled to appear in the Tokoroa District Court.
Taupō Area Investigations Manager Detective Senior Sergeant Ryan Yardley said police continue to support Michelle Tangimataiti’s whānau as they come to terms with their loss.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death while court proceedings are underway.
