The Māori Party says its decision not to participate in a review of parliament’s culture was vindicated by the report’s shortcomings.
Consultant Debbie Francis conducted the review as a follow up to one she did four years ago looking into allegations of bullying and harassment.
But Māori Party co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer says she should also have been asked to consider implications of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tīkanga on the workplace.
“We made it really clear from the beginning that we thought it needed to reach wider that there was an absence of a te tiriti centric approach. We were also very concerned that it wasn’t going to get to the bottom of the issues that are going on here systemically for Māori,” she says.
