Time for all to act on climate
A coalition of 30 environmentalist groups has proposed a 10 point plan to combat carbon emissions, restore nature and support frontline communities.
Emily Bailey from Climate Justice Taranaki, who is part of the coalition putting up the online petition, told Waatea Talkback the politicians have fallen short of developing and implementing the policies needed to combat climate change.
The wider public also has a responsibility to act.
“The Government is not going to action a lot of this. It’s up to the community to do it. It’s up to the farmers to change. It’s up to the people to plant the trees and to councils to fill out the infrastructure and let the rivers open up again and replace the wetlands. It’s basically a big education shift to say we’ve go to do stuff now and we’ve got to do it together,” she says.
