Trust to train tikanga board members
Te Pūtea Whakatupu Trust has launched a programme to get Māori professionals into governance roles.
Chief executive Te Pūoho Kātene says there’s an increasing demand for tikanga-focused leadership, whether it’s in commercial enterprises or in organisations looking at social and environmental issues.
He Tukutuku Koiora is a two-and-a-half-year Māori-specific governance training programme which includes both online and in-person learning modules, manaaki support and mentoring, as well as an 18-month associate directorship placement.
Mr Katene says the trust, which is funded from the Maori fisheries settlement, wants to equip the next generation of Maori leaders to be courageous and resilient in board positions and to have a values-centred approach that’s embedded in tikanga Māori.
Applications close on Febrruary 28.
