Ruha takes Highway 35 to Silver Scroll


In a big moment for the revitalisation of reo Māori through songwriting, Tairāwhiti choir Ka Hao and Rob Ruha have won the 2022 APRA Silver Scroll Award for 35, a song celebrating the highway which connects the communities of the East Coast.
Ruha shares the writing credits with Kaea Hills, Te Amorutu Broughton, Ainsley Tai, Dan Martin, and Whenua Patuwai.
The song was performed at last night’s awards in Auckland by Stan Walker and Hamo Dell.
The coast’s musical heritage was also acknowledged with the induction into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame of the late Ngoingoi Pēwhairangi and Tuini Ngāwai.
The APRA Maioha Award went to Aja Ropata, Byllie-Jean and Chris Wethey for Te Iho.
Dana Lund and Horomona Horo won the film music award for their contribution to the Whina soundtrack, and Jonathan Crayford, Joel Tashkoff, Troy Kingi, Diggy Dupé soundtrack for The Panthers was judged best work for a series.
