Russian nuclear threat alarms Henare

Download AudioDefense Minister Peeni Henare says his counterparts around the world are nervous about Russian threats to use nuclear weapons as it faces defeat in Ukraine.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, and the invasion has loomed large in discussions with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and others.
Mr Henare says he’s looking forward to her briefing on Ukraine when she gets back.
“We’re still contributing there to make sure we can support them in the defence of their sovereign land but it does make us all nervous. The diplomatic channels and the diplomatic route is far better than anything we have seen of late and we will continue to encourage the parties to come together and make sure they have those discussions to avoid escalation of these problems,” he says.
