Mokopuna memories shared in royal moment

Northern matriarch Titewhai Harawira says Queen Elizabeth was a role model for all strong women.
She says the queen committed herself and her family to the well being of the world family.
She was able to meet the her during a visit to Waitangi, and it was a reminder both of her human side and of the importance of the bond between Maori and the British Crown.
“It was just lovely, just to talk to her and ask her how her children were, her grandchildren, all of those things, just never mind about the politics and things, just talk to her and know this is where our tupuna went to honour our treaty, to do all the things they did, they went to England,” Mrs Harawira says.
A one-off public holiday will be held on Monday September 26, which will include a state memorial service for Queen Elizabeth II at St Paul’s Cathedral in Wellington.
