A Hastings primary school teacher is becoming a Tik Tok sensation with her sign language interpretations of popular songs.
Nora Rose Kirikiri learned to sign from a neighbour growing up in Gisborne, and she’s one of the few who can translate both English and te reo Māori.
She started sharing her versions of songs by Bob Marley, Stan Walker and the Yandall Sisters to create fun and educational content for her tauira during last year’s lockdowns, as well as providing more online content for deaf whānau.
She’s gratified with the response.
“I’ve had a lot of messages coming through asking where they can learn sign languages or if I take classes so it’s quite cool to hear the feedback from the whānau,” Ms Kirikiri says.
