Associate Health Minister Peeni Henare is concerned about the under-reporting of positive covid tests.
There were 19,566 community cases recorded yesterday and 10 deaths.
But some Māori providers believe the true number of cases could be double the official figure because people aren’t bothering to report when their rapid antigen tests come up positive.
Mr Henare says some providers are stepping up.
“They are running basically education courses for our families, like a couple of the providers in Northland, literally to teach them how to use these things, to allow them to take the test, whether it’s negative or positive, and then the health provider does the reporting themselves,” he says.
