Taitokerau vax effort glimpse of future
The head of Ngāti Hine Health says having 70 kaimahi from Waipareira doing vaccinations in Te Taitokerau this week is a sign of what to expect from the health reforms.
Geoff Milner says it’s not an Auckland invasion, as they were invited in by whānau ora partners and are working alongside them.
With vaccination uptake in the area just 64 percent fully vaxxed and 12 percent with first doses only, they’ll take all the help on offer so they can get to 90 percent double vaccinated by Christmas, when whānau will pour into the region.
“What I like about working with our whānau ora partners from Tāmaki is I think it’s a picture of the impending health reforms, of borderless approaches, of whanaungatanga, or being able to shift capacity to where the need is and moving even in some sense our Māori thinking that this is my patch, so we’re really excited to be hosting whānau ora and our Waipareira partners,” Mr Milner says.
The Shot buses and camper vans are in Muriwhenua today, where there are are still 16,000 eligible people who haven’t had their first dose.
