Data mining needed for Māori health change

Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency head John Tamihere says Whānau Ora providers need better access to government data so they can target people for Covid support and vaccinations.
He says Māori providers have been denied access to data for years for supposed privacy reasons, while other organisations and firms have been free to mind it.
He hopes that’s about to change so providers can get a more accurate sense of what’s happening with the larger Māori population while also reaching out at an individual level to get people involved in the vaccination programme.
He says existing vaccine booking systems aren’t working for Māori, and providers want to be able to take the direct approach.
