Te Tai Hau-a-uru iwi select member for Te Matawai

Iwi from Te Tai Hau-ā-uru have selected Ruakere Hond to be a member of Te Mātāwai – the new organisation set to lead the revitalisation of te reo Māori on behalf of iwi and Māori.

Dr Ruakere Hond (Taranaki, Ngāti Ruanui, Te Ātiawa), is highly renowned for his long time leadership, teaching and dedication to Te Reo o Taranaki and the Te Ataarangi movement. He was instrumental in the development and implementation of the Taranaki Māori Language Strategy. He has also served on the Board of Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori. He has a Master of Arts from Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi, and graduated with his PhD from Massey University in 2014 for his research based on language revitalisation and its impact on wellbeing.
