The Public Service Association’s te kaihautū Māori says public sector job cuts are creating stress for those left behind.
Janice Pānoho says with close to 4000 jobs now axed – and another 3 to 4 thousand still to go – services to the public will be affected.
She says the Government isn’t talking about who will cover the gaps.
“There’s also people that are left behind.. so with all the positions [being lost] the one’s that are left behind to pick up the slack and also to cover – in terms of the essential work – I have real concerns about how it’s going to be delivered,” Ms Panoho says.
She says critical Maori services and roles have be lost throughout government as Maori initiatives are culled.
