The National Party has officially launched its 2026 election campaign, with leader Christopher Luxon putting economic growth, infrastructure and household finances at the centre of his pitch for another term in Government.

Luxon used the campaign launch to argue National has spent its first term fixing what it sees as the country’s economic and public service foundations, and now wants voters to back a longer-term programme focused on building New Zealand’s future.

National says its plan will prioritise economic growth, jobs and higher incomes while investing in infrastructure and improving essential services. The party has also been campaigning on reducing barriers to development, strengthening energy security, increasing competition and maintaining tighter control over government spending.

The launch also sharpened National’s election-year contrast with Labour, with Luxon presenting the November election as a choice between National’s economic programme and the alternative being offered by opposition parties.

With election day now weeks away, National will be looking to turn its record in Government and its Build the Future message into support for a second term.
