Stan Walker is taking his biggest musical experience yet to the capital, adding Pōneke to his Symphonic Experience tour following huge demand in Tāmaki Makaurau and Ōtautahi.
The multi-award-winning Māori artist will bring Stan Walker – A Symphonic Experience to TSB Arena in Wellington on Friday, November 20, combining his live band with the scale and power of a full orchestra.
The new Pōneke date follows a sold-out Tāmaki Makaurau performance and strong demand for the Ōtautahi show, which organisers say is also nearing capacity.
For Walker, whose whakapapa includes Tūhoe, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāti Pūkenga, Tūhourangi, Ngāti Wāhiao, Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Whakaue and Ngāi Tahu, the symphonic format provides an opportunity to explore his catalogue in an entirely different way.
Rather than simply placing an orchestra behind familiar arrangements, the show has been developed as a journey through Walker’s musical whare — bringing audiences deeper into his waiata, influences and evolution as one of Aotearoa’s most recognisable performers.
FAN FAVOURITES REIMAGINED
The Symphonic Experience will feature new music alongside reimagined versions of songs that have followed Walker throughout his career.
His live band will be joined by a full orchestra, giving familiar waiata new arrangements, greater scale and an entirely different live sound.
Walker has described his conventional concerts as welcoming audiences into the front room of his whare.
The symphonic production, he says, opens the rest of the house.
It is an ambitious step for an artist whose career has increasingly brought together contemporary pop, soul, whakapapa and te reo Māori.
Walker has built a catalogue spanning chart hits, film, television and waiata Māori, while becoming one of the country’s most prominent advocates for normalising te reo Māori through mainstream music.
KĀINGA ARRIVES FOR TE WIKI O TE REO MĀORI
The announcement of the Pōneke concert coincides with the release of Walker’s latest single, Kāinga, for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
The timing connects the new tour date with another chapter in Walker’s longstanding commitment to carrying te reo Māori into spaces and audiences well beyond traditional Māori-language platforms.
For generations of rangatahi Māori, that visibility matters.
Te reo Māori is increasingly being heard not as an addition to mainstream popular culture, but as an integral part of what contemporary music from Aotearoa sounds like.
Walker has been part of that transformation.
His music has repeatedly demonstrated that waiata grounded in Māori language, identity and whakapapa can sit comfortably on major stages and reach audiences across cultures and generations.

Now Walker will bring the full Symphonic Experience to the city.
With Tāmaki Makaurau already sold out and Ōtautahi approaching the same milestone, the addition of Wellington gives another part of the motu the opportunity to experience the production.
