The All Blacks have produced their most complete performance of the season, overpowering Ireland 40-21 at Eden Park to maintain one of world rugby’s most remarkable records and continue their unbeaten start under new coach Dave Rennie.

The victory extends New Zealand’s unbeaten run at Eden Park to 53 consecutive Test matches, with the famous Auckland venue remaining an impenetrable fortress more than three decades after France became the last international side to win there in 1994.

Facing one of the world’s top-ranked teams, the All Blacks wasted little time asserting themselves. Their forward pack laid the platform through dominant set-piece work and physicality at the breakdown, allowing the backs to play with speed and confidence.

New Zealand crossed for six tries, racing to a commanding first-half lead before controlling the contest through the second spell. Ireland struggled to cope with the pace of the home side’s attack, while errors and missed tackles proved costly against an All Blacks team that punished almost every opportunity.

The performance marks a significant statement in the inaugural Nations Championship and gives Dave Rennie three wins from his opening three Tests in charge.

After questions over consistency in recent seasons, the All Blacks have shown increasing cohesion in attack while rediscovering the physical edge that has long defined New Zealand rugby. Against Ireland they combined accurate execution with relentless defensive pressure, forcing the visitors into mistakes throughout the contest.

Ireland arrived in Auckland hoping to become the first team in more than 30 years to conquer Eden Park, having previously broken New Zealand’s home Test series dominance in 2022. However, the hosts never allowed the visitors to gain sustained momentum, controlling territory, possession and the scoreboard for most of the evening.

The victory gives New Zealand maximum confidence ahead of its next major challenge, a four-Test series in South Africa against the reigning world champion Springboks.

With the Nations Championship campaign gathering momentum, the All Blacks have sent a clear message to the rest of the rugby world that Eden Park remains one of international sport’s most daunting venues—and that this New Zealand side is rapidly finding its stride once again.
