New Zealand’s weightlifting team has been confirmed for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with a mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talent set to represent the silver fern on the international stage.

The selection marks another important milestone in the build-up to the Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2 next year. Weightlifting remains one of New Zealand’s strongest Commonwealth sports, with Kiwi athletes regularly challenging for medals against some of the world’s best lifters.

Among those named are athletes who have consistently delivered strong performances at national and international competitions, earning their place through a demanding selection process overseen by Weightlifting New Zealand and the New Zealand Olympic Committee.

The announcement follows a strong period for New Zealand weightlifting, with several athletes producing standout performances at recent championships and continuing the country’s proud tradition in the sport.

Weightlifting has long been a source of success for New Zealand at major events, producing Commonwealth champions and Olympic representatives who have helped elevate the sport’s profile nationwide. Athletes such as David Liti are among those continuing that legacy as the team prepares for Glasgow.

The selected lifters will now enter the final phase of preparation, focusing on strength, technique and competition readiness as they aim to bring home medals for Aotearoa.

With the countdown to Glasgow 2026 well underway, New Zealand’s weightlifters will be looking to make their mark when they step onto the platform wearing the silver fern and competing against the Commonwealth’s elite.
