Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says a peace deal has been reached between the United States and Iran after intensive international talks.
The agreement is expected to bring an immediate and permanent end to military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon, following months of heightened tensions across the Middle East.
Sharif says the official signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 19, in Switzerland, with mediators to hold further meetings this week to prepare for implementation and technical talks.
The announcement credits Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye for helping push the diplomatic effort forward.
US President Donald Trump has also said the deal is complete and announced steps to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipping.
The deal comes after a period of rising pressure in the region, including conflict linked to Iran, Israel, Hezbollah and US forces.
While the agreement has been welcomed as a major diplomatic breakthrough, attention will now turn to whether both sides follow through and whether the wider region holds to the ceasefire.
