Aotearoa producer and multi-instrumentalist Brandon Haru is heading into the Aotearoa Music Awards with major recognition, linked to three nominations through his work with Ladi6 and her acclaimed album Le Vā.

The Aotearoa Music Awards, known as the AMAs, are the country’s major annual celebration of recorded music, recognising artists, producers, engineers, songwriters, directors, and creators across the local music industry.

Haru, also known as B.Haru, has built a strong reputation as one of Aotearoa’s most versatile producers, working across soul, hip hop, R&B, electronic music, and kaupapa-driven projects. His credits include collaborations with Ladi6, Valkyrie, @peace, and Niko Walters.

This year, his work is connected to Ladi6’s three AMA nominations: Album of the Year for Le Vā, Single of the Year for LightBulb, and People’s Choice.

Le Vā has been celebrated for its rich Moana influences, soulful production, and deeply personal storytelling. Haru’s contribution as producer, writer, musician, and engineer reflects the behind-the-scenes craft that helps shape some of the most distinctive sounds in Aotearoa music.

For Haru, the nominations represent more than industry recognition. They acknowledge years of creative work, collaboration, and the role of producers in building the sound of modern Māori and Pacific music.

The recognition also highlights the strength of Aotearoa’s independent music scene, where artists and producers continue to create work that is locally grounded while reaching audiences far beyond New Zealand.

Haru’s career has been marked by experimentation, cultural connection, and a willingness to push sonic boundaries. His production style blends musical depth with contemporary edge, helping artists tell stories that are both personal and universal.

The AMAs will bring together some of the biggest names in New Zealand music, with finalists from across pop, hip hop, soul, R&B, te reo Māori, roots, rock, electronic, jazz, and classical music.

For Māori and Pacific creatives, Haru’s nominations are another reminder of the growing influence of Indigenous and Moana voices across the national music landscape.

The winners will be announced at the Aotearoa Music Awards in Tāmaki Makaurau, closing out New Zealand Music Month with a celebration of the artists and creators shaping the future of local music.
