Radio Waatea understands a new political party linked to former NZ First MP Tukoroirangi Morgan is currently being formed, with indications the movement could seek to attract support from sitting Hauraki-Waikato MP Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke.
Waatea has confirmed evidence of the party’s development after reviewing membership application forms associated with the proposed political movement, along with records indicating a related website domain has recently been registered.
Sources have suggested those behind the initiative hope to encourage Te Pāti Māori MP Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke to become involved with the new political entity.
At this stage, it is unclear what role, if any, Mr Morgan would formally hold within the organisation, or whether discussions have taken place directly with the young MP.
Waatea has approached Mr Morgan for comment regarding the reported formation of the party and its intentions.
Waatea has also sought comment from Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke.
Further details are expected to emerge in coming weeks as preparations for the new political movement continue.
