The Hurricanes have strengthened their Super Rugby Pacific finals push after overpowering Moana Pasifika 64-12 in a dominant display in Wellington.

The home side proved too quick and clinical across the park, running in multiple tries and taking full advantage of Moana Pasifika errors in a one-sided contest at Sky Stadium.

The Hurricanes exploded out of the blocks with their fast-paced attacking style immediately placing Moana Pasifika under pressure. Their backline repeatedly found space out wide while the forward pack dominated possession and territory throughout the match.

Winger Kini Naholo was one of the standouts for the Hurricanes, crossing for multiple tries as the Wellington side’s speed and support play overwhelmed the visitors. First five Brett Cameron also controlled the game effectively, guiding the attack and converting pressure into points.

Moana Pasifika struggled to contain the Hurricanes’ tempo and found themselves chasing the game early after conceding a string of quick tries in the first half.

Despite moments of strong ball carrying and physicality from Moana Pasifika forwards, the side could not maintain possession long enough to build sustained pressure against the Hurricanes defence.

The Hurricanes continued piling on points after halftime, stretching the margin further as fatigue set in for the visitors.

The result keeps the Hurricanes firmly in the hunt near the top end of the Super Rugby Pacific ladder as the competition heads toward the playoff phase.

For Moana Pasifika, the heavy defeat is a setback after recent improvements in form, though the side continues to show growth and competitiveness throughout the season.

The match also highlighted the growing influence of Pacific players across the competition, with both teams featuring strong Māori and Pasifika talent throughout their line-ups.
