Reigning champions Te Kapa Haka o Waihirere have once again proven their dominance, successfully defending their Tamararo Regional Kapa Haka title in Gisborne.
Performing in front of a passionate home crowd, the powerhouse rōpū delivered a commanding bracket that secured them back-to-back honours at one of the country’s premier kapa haka competitions.
The Tamararo festival, held at the Gisborne War Memorial Theatre, brought together some of the strongest kapa haka groups from across Te Tairāwhiti, showcasing excellence in haka, waiata and Māori performing arts.
Waihirere’s performance stood out for its precision, energy and cultural depth, reinforcing their reputation as one of Aotearoa’s leading kapa haka groups.
The victory ensures Waihirere will again represent the region on the national stage, continuing their legacy of excellence and commitment to te ao Māori.
