The New Zealand Warriors have delivered a commanding performance in the NRL, overpowering the Newcastle Knights 38-12 in a statement win that continues their strong start to the 2026 season.

The match also marked the long-awaited return of co-captain Mitchell Barnett, who took the field for the first time since suffering a serious knee injury last year. His presence added experience and leadership to a side already building momentum early in the competition.

Despite conceding the opening try just minutes into the game, the Warriors quickly took control, piling on 30 unanswered points to seize the momentum and effectively shut the Knights out of the contest.

From that point, the visitors dominated both possession and territory, with their attack clicking into gear and their defence holding firm against a Newcastle side missing key players.

Halfback Tanah Boyd played a pivotal role in the win, guiding the team around the park and helping unlock the Knights’ defensive line, while Jackson Ford continued his strong form, adding to his growing influence this season.

The Warriors ran in six tries to two, with their outside backs capitalising on attacking opportunities, including a late flourish that underlined their dominance right through to the final whistle.

For Barnett, the return capped off months of recovery and signalled a boost for the side as they look to build consistency and push deeper into the season.

The result sees the Warriors remain unbeaten after three rounds, reinforcing their early credentials as one of the competition’s form teams.

For Newcastle, the loss highlights the challenges ahead, particularly with injuries affecting key players and disrupting combinations.

For the Warriors, however, the message is clear – they are not just winning, they are building momentum, and with key players returning, they are shaping as a serious contender in 2026.
