New Podcast ‘Uia Te Pātai’ Explores Māori Mental Health and Healing
A new podcast led by clinical psychology researcher Heemi Kapa-Kingi is shining a light on mental health through a Māori lens.
Uia Te Pātai, created in partnership with Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services, aims to empower whānau as first responders in healing and resilience.
Kapa-Kingi says healing isn’t linear, but open communication is key for those offering support.
“So time, time is subjective. Healing is the process. Communication, I think, would be the most key part in all of it – just to be clear on your comms, clear on your issues and clear on your needs, so that you can be supported in a way that’s appropriate to you, and whānau can feel empowered to support you clearly and accurately,” says Kapa-Kingi.
The podcast is part of a growing movement to centre Māori voices and values in mental health conversations.
