Te Matatini 2027 dates have been announced for Hopuhopu, Hamilton.
The premier celebration of Māori performing arts will take place from February 22 to 27, 2027, co-hosted by Waikato-Tainui, Te Matatini, and Te Whare Haka o Tainui Waka.
The pōwhiri will be held at Tūrangawaewae Marae on Monday the 22nd, followed by four days of fierce kapa haka competition, with the Te Matangirua Finals Day on Saturday the 27th.
Tukoroirangi Morgan, Chair of Te Arataura o Waikato, says the event will carry a strong Tainui waka flavour, with 64 marae and ample accommodation ready to host the motu.
Te Matatini Chair Tā Herewini Parata says Te Matatini is the pinnacle of kapa haka excellence, while Haani Huata-Allen of Te Whare Haka o Tainui says excitement is already building across the rohe.
Regional qualifiers begin in 2026, as teams prepare to earn their place on the national stage.
