Significant Recall of Tasti Snack Products Amid Metal Contamination Concerns
New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS), working with Tasti Products Ltd, has issued a major recall of over 20 snack products sold under the Tasti brand due to concerns about potential contamination with small wire-like metal pieces.
The recall affects a broad range of Tasti snack and bar products, including:
-
Several Tasti Smooshed Bars (e.g. Berry Cashew & Cacao, Cacao Brownie, Choc Peanut, Peanut Butter & Caramel)
-
Protein brownie bars in Dark Cacao, Hazelnut and Raspberry varieties
-
Snack Logs and Chopped Peanuts, Nut Bar Deluxe
-
Frooze Snack Balls (Cranberry, Caramel Choc PB, Choc Hazelnut)
-
Other products like Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Lemon Cheesecake flavour, etc.
Affected items are identified by specific best-before dates and batch markings, and consumers are urged to carefully check the recall list to see if the product they have is included.
Tasti Products Ltd says its food safety monitoring systems detected the potential presence of exceptionally thin metal wire in some imported raw materials used in the affected products.
-
Do not eat any of the affected products.
-
Return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. If returning isn’t possible, dispose of it.
-
Retailers are instructed to remove affected stock from shelves immediately.
These products were sold nationwide across New Zealand in supermarkets and other retailers. Some of the recalled items were also exported to Australia, Fiji, India and Singapore.
So far, no injuries have been reported. However, NZFS deputy director-general Vincent Arbuckle has pointed out that if ingested, the presence of wire-like metal pieces could cause injury.
NZFS will work with Tasti Products Ltd to determine how the contamination occurred and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Also, NZFS has alerted food safety authorities in the countries where exported products were sent.
