A large pro-Palestinian demonstration, dubbed the March for Humanity, was held in central Auckland this past Saturday, drawing thousands of participants demanding action from the New Zealand government over the conflict in Gaza. Waatea was there and estimates more than 30,000 people attended.
Organisers, led by the group Aotearoa for Palestine (a Māori- and Palestinian-led collective), called the march to demand that the New Zealand government: Impose diplomatic and economic sanctions on Israel, Support an unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, Oppose the ongoing blockade and humanitarian crisis, including the restriction of aid, food, and essential services.
